It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Karen Anne Marie (Novak) Coulter, 73, of Calgary.

While she was a loving and compassionate friend to everyone she met, Karen found her greatest joy in her family. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Riley; sons David and Mark (Brenda) and daughter Sharlene Cunningham (Bret); her cherished grandchildren Kaley, Chloe, Riley and Cameron; and her only brother, John Novak.

Born and raised in Toronto, after graduation she ventured west to attend Canadian Nazarene College (CNC) in Winnipeg where she met the love of her life. Karen and Riley were married on June 20, 1970 in Calgary and a few years later began their family. Karen was a faithful helpmate for Riley as he pastored in Chilliwack, Regina and Victoria, then as president of CNC in Winnipeg before relocating to Calgary in 1994 to establish Ambrose University.

While raising her family, Karen worked as an executive secretary for Kleysen Transport in Winnipeg, and Gibson Petroleum, NAL Resources and Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation in Calgary.

In retirement, she and Riley enjoyed travels near and far with family and friends – eagerly anticipating each and every trip. She also took up card-making and delighted in blessing others with her beautiful creations as an expression of her friendship and love.

Although we are heartbroken to say goodbye so soon, we are eternally grateful for her life of faith and the legacy she has left for our family to celebrate. A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 13 at 2:00 pm at Skyview Community Church, 9685 Harvest Hills Blvd N. Overflow parking and shuttle will be available at Harvest Hills Alliance Church (10099 Harvest Hills Blvd N). The service will also be streamed live on www.skyviewchurch.ca.
