Gwen Grobe, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away tragically in a car accident alongside her husband, Harold Schmidt, on Saturday, July 1, 2023.

Born on June 22, 1936, in Calgary, Alberta, Gwen was the daughter of Lucy and Squire Stonehouse and a younger sister to Jess. Gwen was was born and raised in a loving Christian home in Calgary. She pursued her post secondary education at Canadian Nazarene College, where she formed lifelong friendships that would endure through the years.

Gwen married the love of her life, Elwyn Grobe, in 1957. They embarked on a beautiful life journey together, pastoring various Nazarene churches throughout Alberta, British Columbia, Wyoming, and Washington. As a dedi- cated mother, Gwen focused her time on raising their three children, Dave, Monroe, and Debi Jo. While primarily a stay-at-home mom, Gwen also took on part-time jobs as an Administrative Assistant, most notably, for the Church of the Nazarene Canada Pacific district. In her senior years, Gwen was known as the volunteer extraordinaire, dedicating her time and service to schools, community and church events, and most recently, to her local thrift store.

Tragedy struck Gwen's life in 2006 with the sudden death of her beloved husband, Elwyn. Following his passing, Gwen found comfort living with her daughter, Debi Jo and her family in Langley, British Columbia. Gwen found love again and remarried at the age of 81 to a gentleman named Harold Schmidt, and they enjoyed almost six years of happiness together.

Gwen leaves behind a lasting legacy in her children, Dave (Tammy), Monroe (Denise), and Debi Jo (Bruce). She was a cherished grandmother to eleven grandchildren and a proud great grandmother to six, soon to be seven, great grandchildren. Her love, dedication, and caring spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew her, but we are comforted by the knowledge that Gwen is now in the care of her Saviour and Lord.

Cards and letter of condolences can be sent to Gwen's Daughter:
